What age should shape toys be introduced to baby?

9-10 months is when most children develop the hand strength to pull the hook and loop pieces off of the puzzle mat.

This action helps develop the pincer grab (when 2 fingers come together to pinch and pull something apart). The pincer grab is a necessary skill for pre-writing and strengthening those finger muscles through play is an excellent way to help your child learn.
