What age should shape toys be introduced to baby?
9-10 months is when most children develop the hand strength to pull the hook and loop pieces off of the puzzle mat.
This action helps develop the pincer grab (when 2 fingers come together to pinch and pull something apart). The pincer grab is a necessary skill for pre-writing and strengthening those finger muscles through play is an excellent way to help your child learn.
Shape sorting toys are great problem solving toys for toddlers. You can use this soft puzzle as a learning resource for:
- learning colors
- learning shapes
- object permanence (something that is hidden is still there)
- pincer grab
- hand eye coordination
- fine motor skills
Our organic cotton toys have been tested to be safe for baby to chew, so you don't have to worry if your toddler decides that learning about the taste of the shape sorter puzzle pieces is more appealing than learning about their colors and shapes.
